SES Week is an excellent opportunity to raise public awareness of SES members across the nation, the dedication and commitment by the members and the invaluable services they perform for their communities.
Queensland SES Week is celebrated in October. The efforts of the QSES are recognised during this celebratory week. The theme remains as a THANK YOU to all of our dedicated members.
Award Ceremonies are held state-wide throughout QSES Week and culminate in the Queensland State Awards Ceremony in Brisbane.
National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week (NVW) takes place from 8-14 May 2017 and is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation's volunteers.
During NVW people around Australia will come together to recognise and thank the six million Australian volunteers who contribute so much to their communities. Thousands of events will be held around the country. For more information visit the NVW website.
QFES is proud of the 42,000 volunteers in the workforce who play a crucial role in helping QFES to deliver services and build safer, more resilient communities.
QFES volunteers, made up of approximately 36,000 Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers, 6200 State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers, a volunteer Research and Scientific Branch network and Technical Rescue Unit volunteers, help Queenslanders prepare for, respond to and recover from a range of disasters and emergencies. The contributions they make towards the safety and wellbeing of the state are immeasurable.
Wear Orange Wednesday
Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW), the national day to celebrate and thank SES volunteers, also takes place during NVW on Wednesday 10 May. You can get involved in the following ways:
- Add a splash of orange to your outfit for the day and take part in any WOW celebrations in your area.
- Take a photo of your pet donned in something orange and post it on social media along with the #thankyouSES and #WOWDAY tags, or email them to email@example.com.
- Take a printed copy of your pet and hang it up in your work area and encourage others to do the same.
- Have a morning tea (orange food for the adventurous) and display your pet pics in a central location.
